On this week's episode of tripleadvantage, we go shopping for our favorite parts of D and find more waysto complicate our campaign and share our dreams for the future to come, asalways follow us on our Social Videa to see what we have in store for you enjoy. The show welcome member to society to twothousand and twenty one. Are we late playin extra week and did we take anextended vacation off of this podcast? Maybe? But here we are back again with morehashteg content. Today, on the echoes of the outlands, I really wanted to just get a generalsense of where we're at, I guess guys as DMS as twenty one US starting andjust I thought it would be interesting to get like after you know a couple ofyears of playing. What are your guys is favorite aspects of the nd not to breakthis down a little bit further. You know we have your role playing youradventuring and your advancement in game like the were nown and levelingand whatnot that you might get. But I was wondering if there's any littlesubsets of that, that you guys could think of that. You have found that youreally enjoyed this past year and that are looking to maybe explore evenfurther this coming years, both as DM's and as players yourselvs. So it's a bit of a vague question ofsence. So I'll give a bit of an example here and, for example, I've like over the last year of playing,I found that I really enjoy the roleplaying aspect of characters and I've I'm going to try to find a way this year to as a DM, be able to role pay a littlebit more using NPCs and whatnot, because I really do enjoy interactingwith the party. But have these characters be a core element of the stories, and you know adventuresand problems that your characters might have think about it in, like those animeshows where, like your main characters, find some new person or even in likekingdom, hearts more specifically, actually yeah you go to a you, go to anew, you go to a new area and you have a specific and Pece Im there that kinyeah helps you, but you you can choose whether to have them very direct, closeyour party right yeah. You still give the players that's sort of the choice, but I really want to explore that sense of level design and mechanic where youcan have somebody like a close source of information that could help you andsolve specific problems, maybe to the new dungeons that you encounter. Sothat's personally, where I what I've found a lot of interest inthis past year, but I want to pass this question off to you guys because I'minterested to see wed. Sometimes we play together n and some campaigns, butI know that we also play in many different campaigns as wellasynchronously. So I don't know many of you guys can takeit away with this one, but it's funny that you se that, because Jordan, a d I were just talking yesterday, we're pretty sure we're inalmost every campaign together, like I think I have water name without Ama.She has one without me, but al all right, cool, guyinvited, Carlos. Well, I'm actually excited to see howyou do with your goal for this year of Carlos, especially with tashes comingout and the side kicks being introduced. I think that'll be a huge boon toanybody, that's Lin and do exactly what that definitely was. A big factor inyou know considering I G E, it's one of those things where it's like you know like with the players rire like. If theplayers don't know sometony exists as a really a part of a game mechanic. Itapplies to DM as well right like. If somebody doesn't specifically tell youhey, you can have like NPCs that totally do that yeah. So my big thing, so I don't think it's ashock to anybody that I'm big into the role play aspect. What I know it'scrazy I've talked about that at length on this podcast and outside of thispodcast. I have never noticed it during any ofany of our games together. I know I keep it on the downlow. Not that's not really my thing to breakit down into a subset. I like moments that either make me if onm the playeror the players, if on the DM say, Wow and part of why I think that that doesn't translate sowell to combat like if I'm playing, combat or I'm running, combat for players and the villain does...

...something really cool and powerful. Theresponse isn't usually like wow, that was cool, that's usually like crap. I just got hit fe like half my HPand now I'm dying thanks a lot yeah, and maybe I mean like afterwards likewe have a deep roef. Sometimes it's like Oh yeah, like that, was fun andI'm just like really because did' seem fun. I didn't Seeo mother, some prettycool out of Yor back for COM, man, you've seen Om Redo, somecool shit yeah, but okay yeah, I guess, as the player. I also play I also playwarwocks a lot which I like the role play aspect of, but mymovesets tend to be a little bit limited with Omany spell slots and Buch, but a as a subset. Specifically, I think I was talking to my tyrany ofdregans campaign about this. Recently I love running shopping or yeah. I love running shoppingsessions because it's a chance for me. I spend a lot of time, tried to infuse like cool aspects from not necessarily like other properties, even but like from things that I see like if I'm browsing the DND subrititsand I see like a really cool homebrew item that somebody's made him like. That's, really awesome or like. I follow big shadow to the group inSaddle Bak who does cussom contents custom homebrew items complete with artin a full that lock every single day that guyworks tirerlessly, but he always has these cool on somslike man, that's so cool, so I collect all of these into like big packages andthen when people go shopping when they're like, Ineed to stock ut thim just my time to shine. So I get to break out all thesecool items that have been sitting on for a while that, some of which havedesigned some of which other people have designed. I get to like t. The most fun thing forme recently was like they went into a shop and I knew I knewwhat their budget was, and this guy tried to sell them. This really coolsword that I got. I think I got it from the Griff in saddle bag. It wasessentially like an old, thin, Japanese, Dou Ern, and once you opened up the top of theearth and extended into a sword, mate of Ash and shadow weal, very cool. I had to be a tuned, but it did like a lot. I can't remember off the top of I had just whan I di,but it did a lot of extra stuff on top of just being a swort, and then he kindof like Crok it back up and was like yeah the. So that's the sord and theywere like. Oh Man, like we'v, loved that how about she's like ten Thouzenogo. They were like you serious. Why would you show us that I was like S, it's fun and I can't yeah, and then I mean like during oneof our recent adventures as well. Carlos actually was asking he was like,oh well. What, if I like? You know, I'm a monk. I don't need weapons, but whatif I got like some gloves that were maybe they'd gotten these dragonteethhe was like cdild, you do something that is like you can make thegloves into or the teeth into gluves rather andthen I can wear the gloves and then I can een like sestis like like, likelike tip knuckles yeah, and that I can do the monk stuff that Ican still have like an edge and I'm like looking through. It was like wellthere's nothing here, but there is now ho we just kind of homebrewed an itemon the spots. That was a lot of fun. I don't know yeah. I approached that ina very aro stark, requesting gendry's aid, an making a specific wheapon kindof Tixn Wel. It was a lot of fun to make it I'mkind of I'm pretty happy with the weapon that came out of it still inthat still in the bucking excited to use this Soin othe part Dati, Lod so we'll see if that has to beskilled back a little bit, but I don't think it'll be too terribly bad hello. What's Thosat, sorry what what do you think is likethe hardest part of like running a shopping session? Would you say likefor people out there so lhoking or like maybe give them like a breakdown as tolike what you do to like get ready for a shopping session, because honestly, well, Eo me session is a what right. Some people like. I know Jordan yyou're more of a combat guy than a well yeah in some situations, yeah yeah, I like flavoring things, butI find when I'm running a shopping session for my players, it's difficultfor me, because I find it's a lot of impro Om. My part like Oh, what wouldbe sold in this town. I don't know general goods and then someone ask. CanI get a carved duck sure? Maybe I can find one yeah? How much would that go for I have nofreaking clue. You know Itwoud be like under trinkets, I guess,or something and I'd give a random...

...price but like for me, I found that it was like, if I'm not totally a hundred percentprepared like with okay, here's these five different shops that you can go toand they sell this this this this and this and have like a full list alreadycomposed. Then I'm floundering. Okay here is my ceverilstep Tutorio for running a shopping session. As this is my favorite thing,I have a method DEP one. If possible, ask your players ahead of time. Tolet. You know if they're going to be buying anything specific, so, for example, ifyou're in the middle of water, deep in your players or something like I likethis super expensive ring on the spot, the answer might be now right because yeah, that's somethingthat I'm not completely familiar with. That's something that I'd like to takethe time to look into to see what the stats are to see, how much I'd like toprice that at that means not no not no permanentlynot. You can never have this item, but not right now, because you kind of dropthis on me and I need to take im fession or so to look at this, and Idon't want us to leave you guys sitting here in the discord. While I do that step to use sorry, do you use aspecific site for pricing items? Well, here we go step to is have a resource for prasing items. Idownloaded there is an awesome sight that I can't remember off the top of myhead. That has a price for most items associated in the DMG. If it's in, ifit's a DMG or a PBH item, is I I also have a lovely list of shop arctypes. So I don't rememberwhere I agout this. I can share this with you. If you want Jordan and I cansure was Wello because it's sitting in my google drive, I can't remember I'dlove to credit. The original person who came up with this, but I honestly can'tremember who originally came up with this I'll post it on twitter. I suppose, ifI can find it, but essentially it's a list of like if you go into a potionshop, here's when they can expect to find out of the standard items, anything pvh or like minor kind ofminor dmg items, because you're probably not going to find like highteer magic items everywhere. You're GOINGTO have to find a specialist withthat. So in o potion shop you might hind allthese items and then they'll have a breakdown of price or average or lower end price shops andfor higher in prusshots. That is expedited a lot of time. For me,Ei just have to be like okay, it's this this 'n, this you're. Looking for thisar it's right there. You can find this shop ing while you're in here. Oh youalso wanted this yeah. You can find that here as well m step. Three is to really just kind of have fun with itand to try and see if you can find a way to rope everybody in so, if yourparty is more arpientry, come up with some fun shot keeps that they can havefun interactions with if they're more about those Roe moments have a coupleof cool items if they like to flex theirseals, have them make a perception check when they're in the shop andmaybe have them spy, something that you know the shopkeep wouldn't normallyshow to just anybody, but this person spotted and they can be like. Oh, I seeyou have an eye for this cool stuff. So let me explain this to you. If they'rreally, if their combat oriented then make sure to emphasize at least oneweapon shop where they can buy stuff or at least look at stuff and give them agoal to set, they can make themselves stronger. Maybe they can't buy that tenthousand gold ern sort, but maybe now you've caugt their attention, becausethat Synergiz is really really well with some of their abilities as a martial character and they're thinking. Now that that's a great item that I could have that would make myself wayestronger in combat. So that's going to be my goal is to circle back and to buythat eventually, so that I can have that and enhance myself and now they'realready looking forward to his second shopping session, but honestly, don't if you're not a bigfan of this like it's. If it's not clear, this really gets me going. Isaid to my players I was like I would just run shopping. If I could they werelike that's funny. I was like I'm not kidding. This could be. My whole did and I wouldbe happy if it's not your fingor. If it's notyour players, think shopping session is a lot to do sho shopping section in a session. Fine, you want to take yeah after thingI did. I did probably three quarters of hi just session ofshopping and I could have kept going o this. I mean like an hour and a half ofshopping and...

...shopping takes a while because, usuallyit's like, oh what o I want to buy, I don't know what do they have okay. Wellnow we have to look at things and then we have to look at pricing and then wehave to be oh. Do we want to do that? Can I make a persuasion check to makelike you know the pricing different and it adds up real fatlim try and have theplayers also converse amongst themselves to like it like RP amongst themselves,to decide what they need before you even step foot in any shop. Have themkantofling take a minute to go? Okay, wor shopping, but let's be a little bitfocused about this now as the DM it's fun to derail that focus by throwingcool, magicitums, yf them, but have the focus at least narrabit. What do weneed? Okay, we need like six potions of healing we're looking for some rope,we're looking for something asome new armor for the Paladid. The barbarianwants a new weapon and I think if we can PIA chole arrows for the robes thatwould be cool to so what shops do we need to okay, then you can go okay, soyou can t hit up like a general arm, shot, fot, the arrows and or thebarbarian you can hit an armor shop it that Paletamoney needs. You can hit upa potion, your shop to get that O. Maybe Joto get the potiens an, maybejust a a general good shop for the ropes yeah. Then you as the DM havefocused that down to there are four shops that they need to visit. Anythingelse is on them. I feel like I won hundred percent justhijack thes segment for vetoals to talk about iyes. I will trun this over. Sowhat happen DD. Do you like the shopin get in Luser, Rego and shopbing Jordan? What do you Likein Dent? Whatdo I like in TNT? Oh boy, okay, I'll just be real fast about this, but I'msure I've said it before. I like story, guys story stories. The big thing for me. Iso enjoy seeing a story start go from start through to thefinish and seeing like how things played out and just seeing like all thelike side pieces and the the complications that come along withit, seeing how people react to them when I'm building my world. I'venoticed this over this past year, wit with wildmount. I love connecting things together so right from the beginning, I have anoverartam theme that is going to be like the big bed and but I've got multiple different, bigbads, who are also slightly connected, and I've got like different areas thatare connected, even though they really shouldn't be, or they wouldn't normallybe. But I found ways to like make links from one place to another, just so thatthe the players have the opportunity to follow almost any type of thread thatthey want, and they can make their way in towards kind of the end goal of thiscampaign that I've set before them, even though they have no idea. Yet whatthat andgoal or campaign is I've set, so many different threads out in motionthat they can pull almost anyone and they'll end up in some of the very samespots. It's to me that that is that'sinteresting. I love like seeing okay. How are my players going to like? Dothis thing? Oh Thi, that's cool, okay! So now they're going a different waythan I expected, but that's okay, because each of these different thingsare still slightly connected. So I can you know hint at these types of thingsand now they're getting a little bit more angry at this type of character, which is totally fine, but like it's still going to pull into this onebigger story that they're kind of creating which to me is kind of cool. So that's like the big thing for me with regards to dnd just the overallstory and having it linked together and having things in the story that kind of likewint in a particular direction. Ri. I, like the roleplay aspect ofthings for sure, I'm not the greatest at the like out of combatroleplay. I think I'm fairly decent at role playing my combat. I don't know ifyou can agree with that or not braiden, but I think o most of the time I like, even even as,like my fighter character, I've given him theshield master and I like to say: Okay, I go to you, know, attack this person, but I've made it so that it's efficient strikes with this character and it'svery proficient and he can see like that,he's aiming at specific points, and then I always talk about how. When I goto bash them, I go for like a knee or I just like bowl them over or I talkabout exactly what it is that I'm doing as I do it and it's not just like okay,I tack a shove, I tack again kind of...

...thing and make roles for it. At least I tryto stay away from that. I try not to take up too much time onmy turn either. So there's it's finding net balance so, but I enjoy like the moments whereI'm like yeah I can. In the most recent in one of my more recent sessions, Igot to block an entire lightning bolt with the with the shieldmaster reaction, andthat was just so much fun where I could just like. I got to step in front of itand just put my shield in front and just all the lightning just kind of gotsmashed into the center and then dispersed around in my shield, and itwas just a really cool scenario to me that I was like yes, I feel so cool. Itwas awesome and yeah yeah th. I'd say that that's likemy favorite part, I guess of DND, is having those cool moments. Any combat out of combat is a lot offun to you like staying in character as much as possible for the for the entire session, so yeah all right. Well, yeah the section we'reall running on the same segment, yeah, so durn. Why? Don't you just carry over into your sex sounds good, so this actually kind of carries overreally well. What I was just talking about the story and the complications, and things like that, because now we're going to turn over into the DMG page, seventy nine and we're going to talk about complications which it caninclude moral, Quandris, twist and side quest, so follow along if you'd like to pageseventy nine again and let's just dive right into it. Okay, so complications. Let's talk about the moral quandries! So if you want to give the characters, a crisis that no amount of spellcasting or sword play can resolve, add a moral quantary to the adventure. Amoral quandary is a problem of conscience, for which the adventurersmust make a single choice, but never a simple one. So moral quandres can include ally, quandaries, fremed, quandries, honored, quandaries, rescue quondaries and respect quaundries. So and thenthey go into detail about each of the different types here, so ally quandry. So the adventurershave a better chance of achieving their goal with the help of two individualswhose expertise is all but essential. However, these two MB CS hate eachother and refuse to work together. Even if the fate of the world hangs in thebalance all right well well, this is getting into like some spoilers forwhat I kind of want introduce in my next few campaigns. All right, yeah, like this is thi good stuff. Here, it's great like reading up on this kind of stuff, canhelp you make campaigns that are veryinteresting like when I preread this a little bit right before we did this recording andI was like Oh, I want to introduce some of this stuff for sure. I'm Goinna look over each ofthe ones. I might try each one just to see what like what works well with thegroup and then like try and im like use that one more often just to see what happens, I think, would be really cool, so sid dancha decide here. Let's see yeahnbcs hate each other refuse to work together even to fay the world hangs inthe balance. The Adventures must choose at the NPC that is most likely to helpthem accomplish their goal. So I, if they, if they choose one guythey're, not going to be able to use the other, essentially is what it'sgetting aut here. So it can be really interesting highlevels, you could have like different gods that hate each other kind of thing, lower levels you're talking about like different patrons. Maybe if you joinone guild, you're not going to be able to join the other. I know we've done that in one of yourone, shods Braiden, so it's it can get very interesting for for the players that way, especially ifthey really want both people. It's great, so yeah friend, Quandry, an MPC that one or more of thecharacters cares about, makes an impossible demand on the characters. Soa love interest might demand that a character turn away from a dangerousquest. A dear friend might plead with characters to spare the villain's lifeto prove that they are better than the villain. A weak N, P C might beg for a chance towin favor from the characters by undertaking a dangerous but essentialmission,...

...sowhat's that hobbits yeah yeah yeah. It's that that last one I really like that one just because Ienjoy the idea of a weaker andpc kind of being like Iwant to be like you guys, you know, I tried running that and you guys endedup getting pissed off at that MBC, for an hucottributing to combat was that Oh Musheri, we no Musha recontributed to combat. Hejust couldn't hit anything EA nine times out of ten Butyeah, I mean yeah, I think like in terms of like week NPCI would make it more like this character is likely to die kind of weakwhere it's like, if they bring this character along despite him begging for it, you know, they'll get to know him a little bit. They might become a little bit attached.I'd, make him very friendly and like, but then like. If he goes into combat, there is a high chance he's going to die unless they spend their turnsprotecting him. Instead of actually doing the mission. Kind of thing youknow, is a Jordan. Have you watched criticalreal season, one like the first campain? I have watched parts of it, but Ihaven't watched the full thing you may have seen this section. There is anexcellently role played section where essentially, Vox Makanar returns backto their KEYP and there's a there's like a fan boy waiting for them, andthis kid is like a commoner who wants to be an inventurer and he's like Ben Boyinghard over box. Mocky is likeyou have to take me alone with your adventures and theyre they're likethey're like you're, not an eventuler like it's very dangerous. Like I don'tcare like. I want to be an Anventuar you have to let me in and so tats justkind of like stealths up behind him and just wax him over the head with theblunt end of his Dagg or almost kills him just with like the blunt end of hisDegger, and then they ripped they bring him back up and backs was like yeah. That was me not try like you won't die. He's like this is a tough lesson, butyou will die. He just crushes this kid's dream and sends him off and thearrest of the partis. Like back. You kidding me like was he's like you knowwhat, if we took him along, he would die, and that would be our faults likeI did him a faith yeah I was V, he comes back as a Bildin. Idon't think he did. I can't remember what happens to him, but theyti hatwould be so good. He comes up again, but I honestly can't remember what theresolution that was guys it's syndrome from the incredibles. It really is buddy but yeah that does sound like it. Likethat's the kind of scene. I would love to see my characters handle. They would be cool right. Moving on a little bit here, honour, Quandry, a character is forced to choose between victory and apersonal oath or code of honor. A Paladin who has sworn an oath of virtuemight realize that the clearest path to success, wis in deceit and subterfuge aloyal cleric, might be tempted to disobey the orders of his or her faith. If you present, this quandary be sure to provide an opportunity for thecharacter to a tone for violating his orhur oath very interesting hard to pull off unless the PC is alsovery vested in that personal, oath or or Code Yese. I know a lot of people buildPaladins because they're like Oh, I want to smite and hit people reallyhard and also be a little bit of a healer htanky person, and they don'treally think too hard about, like the the actual oase that they're kind oflike taking and the tenants of their faith kind of thing, and they don'treally use that as part of their character. But if they do, this can be a very interesting quandary for them. My myPaladin and our tyranny campaign did something very much against his boath and he was Apaligen of tear and he had liketears like the Scales and everything enblazoned on his armor, and then hewoke up the day after he, essentially he isentially murdered in NPC, who was like morally gray but like itwas still like. They were unarms like they were defenseless and he killedthem like for okay. It was an emotional scenario. It was no, it wasn't har theGRI scenario, but it was still like. It was something that she was wit for sureyeah its something that was very clearly against his o. So he woke upthe next day to find that all of the ICONOGRAPHY on all of his armor andeverything the skills were incredibly ill, balanced d tipped in one direction, and so ever since he's on been on likethe path of redemption and every time he has been completing these. Thesevery heroi deeds of the scalesills tip...

...a little bit further back into balance. Yeah see that's very interesting, super interesting. I love to do thatkind of thing. An a lot of thim yeah, respue Quandris, guys the adventurersmust choose between catching or hurting the villain and saving innocent lives. So, for example, the adventurers might learn that the villain is camped nearby, but they also learn that another part of the villain's forces is aboutto march into a village and burn it to the ground. The characters must choosebetween taking out the villain or protecting innocent villagers, some ofwhom might be friends or family members. This is the age old question of well, it's like the moral. It's thetrain scenario, the trolley. I guess, where you've got two options, you knowone. Maybe you take out the villain and it stops other people from dying in thefuture or to you, save the people that you canwrite that and there, but the villain might get away and kill more people inthe future. So you know, what's how do you make that choice? I feellike it's very we've all played the the at least the first mission of Wor ofthe Dragon Queen in some capacity or another. I feel like that's kind ofsimilar, how you know this town that you just encounters like on fire andbeing sacked by this Colt and deerd kind of your railroad id a little bitinto into just kind of like defeating the cult and getting them out and doingthese like side quests, but at the same time, like the villages on fire, youcould freely like just be like. I'm getting ignore the village and justfocus on saving the villagers and getting them all out of here. Yeah, that's true. I never reallythought about that. Actually I just assumed the players would go for thevillains kind of thing. We L, that's that's what the modulle assumes to andI think it kind of Raeh you into doing that. But I mean like if the playerswere like you know like forget the villains can of. Can we just like goabout helping people and yeah? Why not mm? And they definitely have like, Ithink, in the in the module they have like there's a bunch of different likerescue missions that you do. I think that that's only like really, but that's really, mostly only after you go and you talk to like the mayoror whatever of this town, and then he sends you out to a different place. Ithink the mill or like the church or something like that and there's a fewdifferent areas, but all of them involve some sort of combat as well, because obviously, there's villains running all over the place, but you never. They never talked aboutlike yeah, putting out the fires or anything like that. They're just likego, save the people, bring them back here kind of thing and make sure you kill, as many ofthose cobolds is possible yeah. That is interesting. Next time I run it I'll see. If I canplay that up a bit right, respect, quandry is the last one of the moral quandaries anyway, twoimportant allies give conflicting directions or advice to the adventurers.Perhaps the High Priest counsels that the characters negotiate: Peace withnegotiate, Pece, sorry with militaristic elves in the nearby forest, while a veteran warrior urges them to prove their strength with a decisivefirst strike. The Adventures can't follow bothcourses and whichever ally they choose, theother loses prespect for them and might no longer aid them. This feels verysimilar to the ally quandary, but I think the difference is that therespect Quandra means that you can earn respect from the other person by doingother things at least that's the difference. I'mseeing here whut it. What do you guys see? This feels in Carlos Itd be interest toget your take on this. This feels like in riseofTam at there's the Council of Waterdeep, which is this kind of governing bodyish of like royals, and all these like different delegations that are alliedagainst the colts of the Dragon, mine and they're kind of your questgiversrigten, most, if not all, of rise and they're, sending you to all theseplaces, but no matter how you do the job you'll always end up making somepeople happy and pissing offsome people right exact'll always be like theyrecently saved or not SAF o. They captured one of the high level wormspeakers in the cult, one of the high level members and brought him back sothat he could be extorted for information and most of the people weresuper happy about the fact that they now have this Li wealth of informationavailable to them. But there was a couple of them that were like. Well, you know this guy's, like he's better off dead, like he's committed, a stupidamount of crimes and his his very life is like a perversion of naturelike just the fact that he's a live and allowed to keep breathing is...

...he will he will break out and he willkeep doing the terrible things that he was already doing like you should havekilled him. You should not have brought him back sopicking like they. The party makestheir choice kind of without knowing what the tances are yeah, it's a littlebit different. So I was like they don't know that these will be the outcomes like they'llpiss off this person, but I'Llli with this person, but right it. Ultimately,it does come down to the same thing, which is they can't these all of them? There's no ratituation but theyre in DU. That will make everybody hapy no, butyou can piss off the other person in the future and you know become a bitmore allied or respected by the general again later, O whatever you can awas ityeah exactly like you. Can you can change sides a little bit? I guessthat's the difference like, whereas the ally Quandry is like these two peoplehate each other and if you ever ally with them, you are considered theirenemy or something. I guess that's that's what I'm I'm. I gottamake some sort of line here. I don't know so. Okay, let's move on a little bit. The twistguys twist can complicate a story and make it harder for the characters tocomplete their goals, so they give a few. They give ten different thingshere that could be twist, so the adventurers are racing against othercreatures, with the same ore opposite goal. I have a one shot in mind forthat exact twist as like a major part of it, the adventures become responsible forthe safety of a non combatant MPC. The adventures are prohibited fromkilling the villain, but the villain has no compunctions about killing them. The adventures have a time limit. Theadventures have received false or extraneous information. Completing anadventure goal fulfils a prophecy or prevents of the fulfilment of aprophecy. The adventures have two different goals, but they can completeonly one completing the goal. Secretly helps the villain. The adventures must cooperate with aknown enemy to achieve the goal or, finally, the adventures are undermagical composion compulsion such as the gays spell or in order to complete their goal.Interesting, very interesting, I'm not sure if Iwould ever do that last one. The Adventures are under magical composcompulsion to complete a goal. That's interesting! It's one of those thatgets feel like it's. One of those lik gets a little bit weirder, especiallyif your players aren't more accustomed to RP. Yeah actually might be likeplayer dependent on that kind of mechanic to the exactly like, and your players would. Yourplayers would have to be up for it like, and I definitely would not want it tolast, very long like it'd be for, like maybe a coupleencounters or like maybe one adventure is under thecompulsion to do such a thing but like having the whole Party would be, it would feel really real roady. Youknow what I mean, so I'm not sure how much I enjoy thatone, but maybe there's a way to make it work and I'm just not seeing it. So all right, let's go over this lastsection and then I'll turn it over Youto Braden. This is on the sidequestso as the last complication type that they offer as examples. So you can alsoadd one or more sidequest to your adventure. Taking the adventures offthe main story, path defined by locations or events. sidequits areperiferal to the characters. Primary goal, but successfully completing aside quest might provide a benefit toward completing the primary goal. Sosome of the side quest options they give ar fine o specific item rumored tobe in the area. Retrieve a stolen item in the villain's possession receiveinformation from an NPC in the area. Rescue a captive, discover the fate ofa missing NPC slay, a specific monster, discover the nature and origin ofstrange phenomenon in the area or secure the aid of a character orcreature in the area. So I use almost like side quests here likeI'm reading over this, and I'm like. Oh, I use these cydequests as like mainquest stuff. I'm like well, it's not quite mainquest, but it's like because my main quest is so like overarching all the side. Quests cankind of like peel into the main quest in some way, so even if they were to gooff and get like well unless they decided that they just wanted tototally like dip on the entire area that I have kind of like planned out.So if they went you know halfway across the world, then it would be far moredifficult for me to find connections to the like big main quest or primarygoal that I have them kind of on.

So then, like these sidequests mightjust become like things that they're doing to pass the time almost. But fornow I have all sorts of like threads that they can pull on, that will kindof connect in some way, shape or form to the main quest or give them somesort of information or benefit towards the main quest soy. What did you say then, exactly? Basically, I'm saying that, like theside quest I'm using them as a way to a reward people with information that goes towards the main goal so like it won't be if it's, even ifit's not directly like here's, the main quest and they're, not following thatpath, exactly even if they were to take a sidepath that sidepath would stillhave information connecting them to the main quest unless they were to like just gohalfway across the world and have nothing to do with any of the stuffthat they've encountered so far. Ohis in that instance, then the villainswould be able to just kind of like re, CAVOC and the world would become a far morechaotic place, which would also be interesting, but you know, maybe not great, for the world at large. Okay, it's like it's like regardingyour players with like a little bit of like extragranularity and yeah, exactlyit's like, so even if they were to be like, like, for instance, I offered them the thread of like Ohhey, so these people have gone missing recently from this place that you'vebeen staying at we're wondering if you wanted to you know, follow up on it ornot. You don't have to you know like your. We just need some people to go and likelook for them and see if they're there. So there's going to be some sort ofconnection to that from that to another thing, but I've also got they've alsogot a time limit to get back to their main their original goal, whichwas set out from their guilt, and so they had to make a choice there between. You know, doe, do this re rescue mission, or do we go back to the main goal that we originally setout from, and so, if they either way that they went, wouldeventually like lead towards this overocking goal that I've set for themor quest. But you know the choice then Changedes.I guess how they go about being their characters right. The rescue quest is really just a sidemission. It's not something that's directly like part of the main quest, but it is something that they could do with that. That is the end of thecomplications. Next we're going to get into creating encounters which is goingto be a hefty one, but for now I'm going to hand it overto Braden okay. So before we get Sart with my segment, this episode of triple advantage is brought to you by something I shouldhave preped something it is brought to you by cringles, Wonderis Wokyeahithink I think we think we pluge this last time to and it's past Christmas, but whatever get prepped already for next holiday season y Christmas rigthat notus hat making on for the Christmas that you missed, yeah, fantastic, poliday, mocule written by several ofus here at the Real S, society, lovely art by Carlos some storylines by me,and our good friend Cam FANTASA lot of it's already getting fantastic ratings.Thank you to all of you on DM skill that Ave already purchased. This iseasily been our most successful module yet yet be in the key word. We will havemore. I proy just takin a bit of a holiday break, but now it's Havyo talkof the town, the segment where we ask you the society, a question that werespond to that question and answer it ourselves on this section of thepodcast in today's question is eguys it's a new year. What? What are your hopes for yourtable in tthousandand twenty one? Well, I actually have an answer forthat. I hope to see more new faces at mytable. I've gotten sick of my regular friendgroup, and I really want to meet a new people. We hate your face too just kidding no but there'se such a bigthere're, such a big dnd community locally, and I know from other groupsto like througr playing like ultimate...

...frisbee. I know that there's a lot ofthose friends that playe dnd and I think it would just be really fun toget to know them. I know it's interesting because, like obviously thedynamics of this game might be might be with like your your small tribe, you know, likethe friends and your, usually you usually with them playing right so like for me, it's something that I wantto like start reaching out and seeing if other tables are like wanting toplay like one shots and campaign stuff like that, and I would be much more funjust to meet New People with new ideas for new characters. You know, so that'smy hope for this New Year. What about you journ, let's see for the New Year, to see for my take? What do I want tosee for my table? I guess I want to see them become morecomfortable which actually they already are. I'm super impressed with thisgroup the started out, basically as new players, but I have seen them grow both like in knowledge of like how the game worksand in Roleplay at the role play aspect, hasbeen phenomenal. With this group. It's been, I just love it. So much I'd like to see the DM do a better jobof being able to improve, and that sort of thing which is me, so you knowthat's, that's a that's a goal. That's what I'd love to see at my table. I I mean I'd, love to try and do likemore tables and like added more friends and things like that. I know a lot of people that areinterested in it and would love to like Testito and like join a campaign. Ijust wish I had more time to be able to do this kind of stuff. Yeah I mean we'll see what happens. Ihave one person already in mind to see if I can add him into the table, but we'll have to see if it works outwith like covid and everything too. So I just it's a bit of a mess that way so we'll see what happens there, but Iam actually really impressed with thegroup as a whole and I am excited to see like what they come up with for thefuture. In terms of like how they're going to play and like howmuch investment they can put into the characters on their own, so one of the characters started out withalmost like zero knowledge had Mnisia like the character had at masia, I hadhis real character sheet. He didn't even have his real character. She andnow he's like getting into it, and he understands the mechanics a little bitand he's getting to know like how his character works and I've beenimplementing that as like his characters started to gain regainsome of his quote: Unquote, memories and orunderstanding of the world. I guess as a whole. So it's been really cool, so Ijust want to see that continue al. What about you Braden? I on got acouple plants. My homebrew campaign is quickly comingto a close, we're in the final stretch now of what that is going to be like, so thatwill hopefully I say hopefully because like we, try and meet weekly and itends up being monthly ofully by the end of two thousand andtwenty one that campaign will have concluded. Oh yeah is yeah yeah. The tyranny of dragons campaign that I'mrunning is going very strong and I hope to continue that even after we are donetyranny. I'd like to branch that out into some I level adventures for theparty Mwant to keep playing with the greatgroups. That's I'm a player in I'm already toying around with a newcampaign that I'd like to start. But at this point I play the ND four nights aweek and that is Waiti mage on top of working. Oh yeah at least have to wait for a while, after my first campaign ens in Ordy, to do that. I've got two dragon fights coming upthis coming week: Yeah Obaby Yeah, that's spicy, less o ready these of new spikegloves yeah. Let us know on twitter everybody how many players you thinkI'm going to kill in the next two weeks. What's your party size again, six mine,Er Piks for hembrew and five forright Jorny, so at least ten think hard going to be da o one yeah. Iwill say I will say: Jorn you'll find this really fun, so I a'm playing a monk in brainscampaign. I just had level ten, so I...

...got curity of body and I guesse. Iguess I misread this initially I did to, but I thought that it was like immune to being poisoned, not just immunity to poison, so Iactually took a full breath attack from no from a poison dragon. No- and I guess I was just chilling- Ididn't realize th t I really didn't take a damage until PA. Some othermembers of the party fact checked. Yes, I own monks skillsthere you go so I'm going to enjoy the a played, a few monks, I'm sure he was theyothat. Yeahhe's the one that brotth yeah yeah so a ten month, man interestingthe dragon has already messed up a lot of the rest of the party, though so ohyeah, I mean breath attack with like fiftyseven damage. Does nothing to the monk? Does a wot lot to everybody else? Yeah, but but at least the monk will be able to dodamage to this dragon. Yeah Yeah Yeah little bit. Well, quick for this. I I'm really worried about our groupBraiden. I was like doing some calculations in my head. I was likeokay, so we've got a warlock who has lost the ability ability to speak, which means that he can't use eldridge blast as cris, which is like his mainway of fightingesocer. We've got my character. Who is you know reallynot combat oriented has a negative one, and constitution will die. Basically,on the first time that there's a breath, attack and he's involved in it verycorrect. We have an Assetin who is now poisoned, whichmeans they have disadvantage on all attacks, which means no sneak attack, also correct yeah, so that leaves us with anassassin barbarian and a fighter with sharpshooter so likethose three characters will have to take on this dragon, essentially ontheir own yeah. That's what we're looking at Uthe, the others of us will just have to like spread out and get the dragonsattention and die individually. I'm not skimping out to this is like a fullblack adult dragon. This Ol Bet Fun Weri'm, so dead, we'reall gonna die, possibly maybe the campaign ends next week, we'll see totin Nex to hearkay. Let's take a look at what you all said when asked what their hopes were forthe oming year, Gomin year, ind at worldeater, six six six says you play it again: Ayes that all R that's rough, Buddyyeahyeah, I feel for you, hang in there. It willget better I'mjoying. My party, it sounds like I'm going to have at leastfive openings, an one of them at RC Robin says they hope to finishtheir two year, long campaign that they're streaming on Youtube. Fiftyplus total episodes by the end congrats. That sounds awesome.
